How to play Tongits Go?
The game may seem simple but the strategic depth is considerable. Understand the key rules below and start your first match with confidence.
Card Distribution and Objective
Cards are dealt among three players. The first player receives a few extra cards. The goal is to match all your cards into melds or hold the fewest points.
Drawing and Discarding
On each turn, draw one card from the deck and discard one. Your opponent can pick up your discard — so you need to be strategic.
Melds and Tongits
Form a 'meld' by placing three cards of the same rank or three or more cards in a sequence together. When all your cards are matched, that is 'Tongits' — you win!
Strategies for winning at Tongits Go
Rather than relying purely on luck, following a few smart strategies can greatly increase your chances of winning.
- Pay close attention to the cards your opponents discard — this gives you an idea of what is in their hand.
- Meld or discard high-value cards (such as King, Queen, Ace) as quickly as possible, since they carry more points.
- Reduce your own points before your opponent declares a 'draw' or 'Tongits'.
- Plan to form multiple melds at the same time — this way your opponent will not be able to tell where you are headed.
- When the deck is nearly exhausted, take the opportunity to declare a draw if needed.
